We are in the final stages of course development....join the waiting list to be the first to hear our new release dates or apply here.

Equine hydrotherapy in its modern form, has been used in equine performance and rehabilitation for over 50 years in the UK. Whilst the technology has evolved, and the research to support it is growing, unfortunately there is very little regulation and it is putting the welfare of horses at huge risk.

Well we're going to change that. Working closely with the Institute of Equine Hydrotherapists (IEH), the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapist (IRVAP) and the Register for Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP), VetHed has developed an initial course.

We have a Level 6 Diploma due to launch in May which will be fully regulated. The level 6 course will allow direct access for therapists or equivalent working at level 4+  i.e. animal therapists from a regulated course, vets and veterinary nurses and degree graduates. On successful completion of the Diploma, these candidates will be qualified Advanced Equine Hydrotherapists! Applications are open with only 10 spaces available.

We are also developing a level 4 due for release later in the year. We expect there to be high demand for this so the waiting list is open already. You can join it here.  The level 4 will be for those also wanting to be qualified Equine Hydrotherapist.   This inclusive route means that those already working in the equine hydrotherapy industry can invest in their education, business and the wider industry impact by enhancing their professional skills, treatment pathways, clinical reasoning and their understanding of the underpinning science and research on which we base our daily practice and management.

Regulation

Since mid 2023 the animal musculoskeletal therapists (chiro/osteo/physio) have been under voluntary regulation of RAMP, which if successful will lead to statutory regulation of those professions. This means all they will be held to account by RAMP and
have to be on their register if they wish to practice. This sets the precedent for all other therapies to follow, and is being closely watched by insurance companies and vets who often refer or approve cases. There are so many advantages to becoming a regulated industry, and you can read more about it here.
