Equine First Aid (refresher)
This course is tailored to the equine rehabilitation or therapy practitioner and is designed to be an annual refresher that is supported by a more extensive course every 2-3 years. The course content focused on the rehabilitation yard and therapy industry, which aims to support membership in professional bodies.
The course is delivered entirely online and should be completed within 10 hours, making it easy to access and move at the pace of the candidate.
This level 4 CPD course is delivered through pre-recorded lectures, a collection of resources, and a reading list, to assist study (directed and self-directed). Candidates will complete a portfolio of work to meet all learning outcomes, through videos, photos, formative tests, and short answer essays. Certificate awarded on completion.

What does the course cover?
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the objectives of equine emergency first aid, including who can administer it
- Understand how to respond to emergencies and manage horses in emergency situations
- Understand the classification of emergencies
- Understand the DR ABC of equine emergency first aid and how to complete a safe secondary survey of the horse
- Know and understand the common causes of respiratory emergencies and their basic first aid
- Know common causes of bleeding, how to control haemorrhage and recognise signs of shock
- Understand how professional planning and reflection reduces risk
